New postNational Club Championships

Tuesday, 25 March 2008

The National Club Championships have been confirmed to be at Dandenong Basketball Stadium (website and map), South Eastern Melbourne, over the Queens Birthday long weekend, June 7th and 8th.
The courts appear to be similar to ETSA Park but the stadium itself must be enormous, it has 10 basketball courts!! So I imagine we may be sharing the facility with another sport over the weekend.. Exciting all the same..

New postOCEANIA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WIN TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Wednesday, 12 March 2008

From IKF..

The powerhouse of Australian Korfball, South Australia, convincingly won
this weekend's Oceania Regional Korfball Championship in Auckland, New
Zealand, winning the tournament final over New Zealand's longest
established region, Canterbury, by 16-6.

The other Australian visitor, Victoria, finished third ahead of host
Auckland, with the two remaining New Zealand regions, Wellington and
Counties-Manukau, entering a combined team that finished fifth.

South Australia went through the round robin section of the tournament
unbeaten, demonstrating better discipline and structure than their
opponents. Canterbury pushed them hardest, a 10-9 result in their match
giving the kiwi region hope of an upset leading into the final. However,
it was not to be, with the New Zealanders having no answer to a
determined rebound defence implemented by their more experienced
opponents, who duly took home the inaugural Helen Searle Trophy.

The weekend finished with a Trans-Tasman clash between national teams
representing the two countries, competing for the Saunders/Bennett
Trophy. Australia again prevailed, with superior shooting and adherence
to their powerful rebound defence giving them an 18-5 victory.

New postOceania Regional Championships Results

Tuesday, 11 March 2008

Congratulations to the South Australian team for their clean sweep
victory in the Oceania Regional Championships. The team outclassed all
their opposition, defeating Canterbury in the Final on Sunday, with a
score something along the lines of 18-6 (I watched it online but can't
recall the final score)..They will bring the Helen Searle Cup to SA in
it's inaugural year.
After sealing that victory, a lot of the State Team players subsequently
represented Australia for the inaugural, annual Bennett/Saunders-Zilm
Trophy Trans Tasman clash.
Australia had too much class for the New Zealanders and easily ran out
the game winning with a similar margin to the earlier final..
When I get the official scores they will be posted to all club websites..

Upcoming Internationals for Australia this year include the Commonwealth
and Friends Championships, to be held in Pretoria, South Africa, June
30-July 6, (Korfball Australia is seeking expressions of interest from
players, coaches and managers)
and the Youth World Championships, to be held in Taipei, Chinese Taipei,
first week of November. (Players who were 23 or under on January 1st
2008 are eligible for this tournament, Korfball Australia are seeking
expressions of interest for players and managers)

New postORKC Streaming

Sunday, 9 March 2008

If you use an alternate browser or Operating System other than Internet
Explorer and Windows, you probably wont be seeing much streaming.. It
appears to be strictly IE/Windows only. The quality is not terrific, but
you can determine what's going on.

Also the match times are out by 1 hour, the International is now
scheduled to start at 12:30 SA Time. Join me on the online chat if
you're hiding from the heat indoors today..

New postOceania Regional Championships this long weekend

The second Oceania Regional Korfball Championships are being held in Auckland, New Zealand this Saturday and Sunday and all matches will be webcast live on Korfball.tv.

After the recent success of the IKF webcasting of the 2007 World Championships held in the Czech Republic, the IKF is enthusiastic about making it possible for smaller events to be webcast to the fast growing international member base so that all countries can see the development and playing standard on each of the continents. IKF hopes this initiative will further assist in promoting Korfball in the Oceania region as the webcast will be advertised throughout both New Zealand and Australian Korfball communities.

If you miss the live webcast, matches will be made available for download after their conclusion.
