New postState League Round 5

Thursday, 18 June 2009

Hi all,
The end of the first full round where all teams have played each other (except for Under 19) gives us a level look at the league tables.  Early in the year I know and a couple of unfortunate technical forfeits still cloud the picture but we all know where we stand.

News of the week was Glenelg finally getting to play in their new strip, looked good and I like the reference to Scaldis on the sleeve.  Referees need to be aware that if you are down for a Glenelg game from here on, try not to wear black, if you do watch out for the ball coming your way.  I’m led to believe there are some new referees shirts on the way ?

After the first few rounds of goals galore, all A grade teams came crashing back to earth, with neither game producing more than thirty goals.  In the first game Boomers took on Sikopi in the fight for second spot on the ladder and it did turn out to be a bit of a fight.  The game was physical with both teams getting frustrated with that and their inability to score.  Boomers running out winners at 19-10 but not a pretty game to watch.  Kym Harris (Sikopi), Mark Hamilton (Boomers), Ash Reddaway (Boomers) and Megan O’Keefe (Boomers) all with 4 goals each.

Arista took on an undermanned Glenelg in the other game, refereed by Megan O’Keefe in her first A grade game as the central referee.  It was a game of many shots missed and lots of turnovers, Arista with lots of pressure in defence only allowing three goals from an out of sorts Glenelg.  Maybe Tom and Nat were a bit tired from the honeymoon?  Arista easy winners at 25-3.  Matt Kleemann (Arista) with 6 and Jess Rismondo (Arista) with 5.

B Grade saw more goals than A Grade in two of its games, NAKC setting a new B Grade team score record with their 34 goals in a game against an undermanned Mitcham beating them 34-16;  Mitcham two players short had no answer to NAKC and were just out gunned.  Tops scorers all from NAKC with Rob Mahobej and Daniel Papalia with 5 each and Hayley Sommers-Cain and Sonya Melillo with 4 each.

Arista and Glenelg saw 30 goals in their game, unfortunately for Glenelg, Arista got 20 of those, although facing a Matt and Kat Kleemann combination Glenelg were behind the eightball from the start., Kat Kleemann (Arista) with 7, Andrew Hutchesson (Arista) with 4 and Matt Farmer(Glenelg) also with 4

Boomers and Sikopi played out the B grade round, Sikopi a player short for most of the first half found themselves 6 goals down at the break.  But they managed to claw their way back into the game and just went down by three in the end at 13-10.  Peter Corcoran (Boomers) with 4 and Bec Coulls (Sikopi) with 4

C Grade saw Sikopi (Blue) take on NAKC and knock them of the top of the table with an unexpected 13-9 victory.  Even with the experienced duo of Adrian Terrace and Michael Houston (returning from injury) NAKC struggled to score, leaving an excited Sikopi team with a good win.  Adrian Terrace (NAKC) and Tyson White (Sikopi) with 4 goals each.

Glenelg and Arista had a hard fought game with Glenelg out to an early lead and then Arista coming back at them, Late in the second half Arista threatened to over run Glenelg but just couldn’t get there.  Glenelg winning at 14-12.  Ricci Centofanti (Arista) with 5

Boomers and Sikopi went goal for goal for the first twenty minutes then Boomers hit several unanswered goals to lead comfortably for the rest of the game.  A good win to Boomers at 18-9.  John Roberts and Mark Reichstein (Boomers) with 4 each and Michelle Burman (Boomers) with 3

The under 19 games all played out with teams short, “swine flu hits korfball”

Glenelg and Arista played seven on seven and a surprising win to Glenelg at 14-11, Patrick Branford (Glenelg) a big part of that with 7 goals, Ashley Othen (Glenelg) also with 5 of her own.

Boomers and Sikopi played with seven and six players respectively, Sikopi dominating the first half at 9-3 at the break.  Boomers a different team after half time got back in the game and threatened to win it several times but just couldn’t score that final goal going down 13-12  (Sikopi unfortunately had to forfeit this game)

Back to ETSA Park this week and game of the week will be the clash between Arista and Boomers in the A grade at 4:30 on court 1.

Stick around and see some of the best players in Australian play some korfball

New postKrispy Kreme Fundraiser

Wednesday, 3 June 2009

In conjunction with Poker Night – our major fundraiser for the year – we are again doing a Krispy Kreme drive!

Please find attached our advertising flyer and if possible please email out to your club members. Sorry for the late notice has been difficult to get this organised and distributed…

We will be taking orders up until Tuesday 9th June and will need to money paid to us the following week of Korfball – Round 5 Sunday June 14th in preparation for delivery on Friday 19th June. For those playing at Cabra that week (North and Mitcham I believe), I’m sure we’ll be able to get your money somehow, all other teams will be at Westminster as will we…

Preferred delivery points are on the flyer, if you come along to Poker Night (venue TBC) - you can pick them up there else we can bring them out to korfball on the Sunday. Don’t worry Krispy Kremes are still good to eat after 2 days – and even better if you give a quick zap in the microwave J

Email orders are ok, just forward on to myself

Thanks in advance for your support,

Megan
